Our Saunas

Welcome to our Saunas. Step into Near Wild, truly Finnish sauna experiences, crafted to feel at home in nature and designed for deep rest and renewal. Set in beautiful outdoor spaces across Surrey and the surrounding countryside, each sauna session is a chance to slow down, warm up, and reconnect — with yourself, with others, and with the natural world around you.

Löyly — the soul of the steam

Löyly (pronounced lurr-loo) is the Finnish word for the soft wave of steam that rises when water meets hot sauna stones. It’s more than just heat — it’s the moment the sauna comes alive.

When löyly rolls through the room, the air turns warmer, gentler, and beautifully humid. Your breathing slows, your muscles soften, and your skin begins to glow as pores open and the body properly lets go. It’s the heart of the sauna experience — and the thing people remember most.

Löyly has been part of Finnish life for thousands of years. While its exact origins are lost to time, it’s often linked to ancient traditions and mythology — where sauna wasn’t just about getting warm, but about cleansing, restoring, and reconnecting.

A simple ladle of water. A rush of steam. A deep exhale.

That’s löyly — and it’s what we’re all about at Near Wild

  • A blue sauna bucket with a wooden handle inside a wooden sauna room.

    Scented aspen wood

Finnish thermo aspen benches are heat-treated to withstand sauna conditions. The wood emits a wonderful natural scent to the overall sensory experience.

  • A sauna heater filled with rocks in a sauna room with dark stone walls, wood logs, and a faucet.

    True Finnish wood burning Stove

Imported from Finnland, our stoves are the heart and soul of the the sauna. Our market leading stoves with large volume Finnish Olivine stones enable the authentic ‘Loyly” experience. Ladle on water to increase the steam!

  • Stacked firewood stored in a wooden shelter on a grassy area with trees in the background.

    Sustainable Logs

Our logs are sourced from local estates that support responsible forest management practices. We also support tree planting projects through regular donations.

  • Indoor sauna with wooden benches, a bucket, and a ladle, near a stove with glowing heat.

    Feet above the stones

The golden rule of good sauna design is simple: your feet should sit above the stones, so your whole body stays in the heat without uncomfortable cold spots. That’s why we build triple-height benches, still surprisingly rare in UK saunas.

Communal Experience

Saunas are “challenging UK pubs as the place to meet” as quoted by The Guardian, due to the communal experience they offer. Sharing a sauna session is great for bringing people together, sparking conversations, or sharing laughs with old friends.

Near Wild

Built for true löyly. Found in places worth slowing down for.

A Near Wild Sauna sits within the landscape, rather than being imposed onto it. Nature is treated as a guide, not a backdrop. We focus on peaceful and unique beauty of each location, allowing them to shine.
